On Wednesday, I had my 22nd birthday.
It was actually a very quiet day. I relaxed, and had dinner at an amazing Indian restaurant (you can never go wrong with Chicken Tikka Masala). I had originally planned to go to an Ethiopian restaurant, but sadly the one in my town had closed down *very sad face*.
Turning 22 sparked an interesting debate in my head. I don’t feel as though 21 I did anything extremely special. I didn’t really travel anywhere exciting, mainly due to focusing on school and getting those credits out of the way. I did many weekend trips, but I felt as though I had been through my major Gung Ho push into adult hood the following year (you can read my post 2013: The Big One). It is easy to forget that my time in my undergrad career is almost up. I am about to enlist on a completely new journey, and I have absolutely no idea which direction I’m going to take.
However, maybe I didn’t travel to a new exotic place. Maybe I didn’t try many new things. But, I learned so much about myself, and who the person I want to become.
So I compiled a list of some of the things I want to achieve at 22:
1. Speaking up for myself:
This is a big one for me. I have a tendency to shut down when in a situation that makes me uncomfortable, yet I want to feel as though I can say what I want to say and not worry about it!
2. Listening to my heart:
Graduating means that I can choose the life I want to live. Listening to my heart instead of living my life for others means that I take responsibility for my dreams and goals and I go after them.
3. Identifying my goals:
Instead of saying “I want to do big things” I want to identify what big things and call them into action.
4. Saying no and not feeling guilty:
For some reason, I feel guilty for turning others down even if it’s for a valid reason. I want to not feel guilty for saying no because I’m saying no for a reason.
5. Making time to do the things I want to do:
I want to read more books, I want to write more blog posts, I want to run more, I want to book my ticket and travel, I want to make time for the things that I want to do!

First of all, congratulations on turning 22. I’ll be turning 18 in a bit as well! This past year has been the worst year on record for me but I’m hoping to change my “luck” next year!
I totally agree with you! There are endless possibilities and I hope you’re able to travel to exotic places. I’d be almost willing to send you some money to go to places so I can see more posts!

Oh good! In the future, you could always start a travel company and have your own website and make money that way. If I wanted to travel, I would want to be an expensive hotel (has to be good quality) inspector and travel around the world. I don’t even know if there’s such of thing as that job!

Yeah, I started with just a food blog and I came up with different ideas and now my topics have a wide range…good way to get all different kinds of audiences.

College is awesome, and it gives you a whole new opportunity to learn more about yourself and find people that you have a lot in common with.
Oh my gosh that would be a dream to start my own travel company! I think there is that job! I’m not sure how you would go about doing that, but that would be incredible!

I’m glad you like it! I wanted something that could display everything on the front page, and then you can click on individual posts. I want to tweak the header and the colors but eventually I will learn that!

Yeah, that would be cool! I have one suggestion not on your post, but when I click on your name, “Maconthefly” it takes me to Mackenzie’s History 390 Blog, which isn’t your main blog I’m assuming. Clicking on the name, is the easiest way for the reader to get to your blog if they don’t know your address. So I would honestly want to change that.
If you don’t know how to change your travel blog to your primary blog, hover over your profile pic (it’s located on your top right corner of your main wordpress page), which will then bring up settings. Click on that and you’ll see Account Options. The setting to change your primary blog should be near the top – I think it’s the third option down and then you can that!

Best wishes on the year ahead. Might not seem like it now, but hold onto 22 as long as you can. Very nice list of lessons, and although I’m a bit partial, I really do hope you get to travel
